Raincheck

"Raincheck" by PARENTS on Youtube

Written by Aaron Sausedo in 2008

Sit still, gather dust - never move
I got nothing to gain & I've got nothing to prove
Forget the last time I saw a smile
The road is longer still, & it might take a while

I'll take a raincheck, I always do
Never cashin' it in just to bother you
There's no fun when you're living fast
Because it wasn't the first & and won't be the last

I'll take a raincheck and I'll cash it last...

Album version on Bandcamp

From "Sweet Sensations", an album I put together while attending Los Angeles Community College in '09 from recordings I made on my Tascam digital 8 track. Genesis of the song dates back to either late 2007/early 2008. Driving to my friend's house in the valley I heard on the radio Heath Ledger died. It was raining. It was a fuck off jam session. The guy playing bass with me at the time was a fella named Jay Deme. He landed on some of the notes you hear in the main riff during an improvised jam. I sculpted it with him and never let it go. 6 months or so later I recorded it on the Tascam. It's been in and out of the repertoire ever since. Jay stopped playing with me after a disastrous gig in '08. I was insulting the venue, the crowd for their lack of attention and was condescending to Jay after the show when we were loading out. This same venue, one year earlier, hosted THE most epic meltdown show I've been apart of, to this day. A drummer incapacitated on drugs, embarrassing hyped up crowd banter & inappropriate dancing. After said show our guitarist Nathan Hernandez said to me, "So.. Band over?". That was it for one year. Then when Jay & I got back together, this song happened. That venue was called The Derby, it was in Los Feliz, on Los Feliz. Claim to fame: They shot a scene from Swingers there. The place where Jon Favreau meets Heather Graham & they dance to Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. It is now a Chase bank.
